"Improving the Fabric of Your Life"
Welcome to Wings--Newsletter of
Volume

I've
just returned from the Houston Quilt Market and Quilt Show, which
was a marathon adventure (to say the least!) We discovered (and
ordered!) some exciting fabric lines that aren't seen too many
places. They will be coming in between January and April, so always
check to make sure you've seen the latest arrivals when you visit
us.
Be
sure to check out the New
Products portion of the website for a review and
photos of some of the most interesting pattern and notion finds
from Houston. And, if you stop by the store between now and December
15 and ask "What else is new from Houston?", I'll not
only show you all the other new goodies I found, but I'll give
you a free pattern just for asking!
Speaking
of dates, the store will be closed from December 25 through January
1. We will be open Christmas Eve, though, to let those last-minute
gift-givers complete their shopping. We found some wonderful gift
items in the $5-$15 range while in Houston (some are so popular
they're already on reorder!). And don't forget, Gift Certificates
make the perfect stocking stuffer for the undecided!
Classes...
Be
sure to check out the class lists on the website. We have a list
of both Decorator Sewing and Quilt Classes being offered
in-house. We're also developing some special classes based on
patterns and books we found in Houston and will post those as
soon as they are scheduled.
Pepper
Cory will be teaching a special two-day class early next year.
Based on the Lone Star pattern, the quilt is from her new collection
of Sweet Potato Quilts and will be held January 8 and January
15, from 10am to 4pm both days. Stop by the store to see the original
antique quilt on which the class is based! Class size is limited,
so be sure to register early!
Many
of you have asked about clothing classes. We discovered
a teacher to sigh over in Houston who has a line of patterns that
will fit - really fit - mature and plus-sized women! I
took a class with her and she had women from size Medium to 2X
come up and try on garments made from her patterns. Even the 2X
women looked lovely with perfectly shaped lines, flawlessly fitting
shoulders and armholes-no shapeless boxy look, no sags, pulls,
or bagging with these patterns. She is available to travel and
teach, so if you'd like to see us schedule her next year, please
call or email me. The most likely format would be to offer a two-day
lecture series on proper pattern fitting with the option for you
to make a one-on-one private appointment with her to have yourself
custom fitted for use on any pattern.
What's
Special About Tuesdays...
Many
of you have already met Fran Lindley, who joined The Quilted
Butterfly staff a few months ago. Fran is here every Tuesday to
help you with your quilting needs. She has extensive quilting
and teaching experience, which means she has a keen eye for color
and design. We feel truly blessed to have her with us!
News You Really Can Use...
We're
starting some new programs in the shop! If you see a sign proclaiming
EOMEOB, don't think we've started babbling. That stands
for our new "End of Month, End of Bolt" special. Come
in on our last working day of the month, purchase all the fabric
that's left on a bolt, and we'll give you 30% off (this discount
may not be combined with any other discounts)!
Look
for our new quilt Border Basket. We've selected a variety
of fabrics that are suitable for borders and cut them into specially
sized pieces measuring THREE YARDS long and 22" wide-perfect
for borders that don't have to be pieced-for only $13.50!
Be
sure to come in and ask about our new Fat Quarter Fantasy
game. No, I'm not going to explain it here-that's part of the
fun! Those of you who shop with us by mail order can email me
and ask about it and play, too! There's a special prize offering
for those of you who tell me you read about it in our newsletter
(one more reason it's smart to read everything in here!)
